Until this date, 1. July 3000., there have been total 260 European Championships. There is an Euro currently in progress, the hosts are Portugal and the competitions has reached the quarter-final.
The best team in history in Europe is officially Spain (although Records say its Germany - SI can you see the problem?) with total of 47 titles and 32 second places - an excellent 30,38% of podium finishes in history. Along with them, Germany was also 47 times European Champion but they finished second "only" 26 times - 28,08% podium finishes.
Both these teams played in total of 16 EURO finals in history and the total result is a draw since Spain and Germany won 8 times against each other.
The top five is made of England and Italy with 21,54% each (England has more wins - 31) and France with 17,31% podiums. Probably the most suprises came from Armenia, Lithuania, Moldova and Gerogia who won total of 25 podiums alltogether (more than Holland in total - 9,62%). Even Israel, Latvia, Estonira, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan won the EURO which is really fascinating.
The history shows us that we had total of 39 different podium finishing teams, top 10 teams won 417 out of 520 podiums (80,19%) which shows us that there are not many surprises available and outsiders (like once Greece was in Portugal 2002.) still have a 20% chance to win the next EURO!
Most frequent hosts were Scotland/Wales who were hosting for 28 times, while being followed closely by England, France, Switzerland/Austria and Ukrain/Poland with 26 times each. Probably the most surprising and most interesting was the EURO 2020 which was hosted all around Europe, while the final was played at Webley in London UK.
